Gone-Tomorrow, An Online Thrift Store's Comments on Vintage Clothing

There is an increasing demand for vintage clothing these days, especially those involving women’s clothing. This stems from a humanly inherent desire to stand out from the rest, to be noticeable in this modern urban jungle. But, how can one stand out in a good way if she wears old clothes?
Basically, vintage clothing, a term referring to old-fashioned clothing, can make one highly conspicuous in a crowd. With all the peeps wearing modern and ultramodern clothing, one would indeed be noticed if she wears 1960’s clothes. For many who prefer vintage clothes, it is a statement – an expression of both style and soul. For others, it is simply an effort to be unique and to be different.

But, there seems to be a popular misunderstanding or misconception with the meaning of the term vintage clothes. A lot of people are confused with vintage clothing and antique clothing. Well, is there really a difference between the two? There is a big difference, as a matter of fact. When we speak of vintage clothing we are talking about those which came to existence and became popular during the 1960s up to the 1980s. On the other hand, antique clothing is the popular clothing which came to being during the 1920s and earlier. Basically, we wear antique clothing during costume parties – we do not necessarily wear one in order to show affluence or to make fashion statement.

What are the things that you need to watch out for when buying vintage apparel? There are a lot of factors and considerations that must be thought of carefully prior to your buying spree. First of all, you must know where to buy the vintage goods. There are a lot of shops in malls that sell attractive vintage clothing. These are pretty irresistible shops because of their impressive displays. However, buying at malls may not be entirely a good idea; mainly because they’re more costly – significantly more costly than those which can be bought in smaller shops outside the malls. As a matter of fact, you will be able to get your vintage clothing and apparel at online vintage stores and you will be able to get handsome deals online.

You have to be fashion-conscious when buying vintage. Just because the item is vintage, doesn’t mean it will make the statement you want it to make. Take for example some of the clothing from the 1970’s. Polyester, elastic waist, pull up pants?  Yuck! The best way to wear vintage is to blend an item of clothing with today’s fashions and it is easier to do than one might think.  Try this: Pair a vintage top with your jeans and you’ll be stylin’. But then, there are also plenty of dresses from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s that would still make a fashion statement worn today.  Just have some fun with it!
